Prince's singles tend to be outstanding. Impeccable production and perfectly crafted, he's one of those artists that's capable of bringing the listener into his world for 3 minutes at a time. "Raspberry Beret" definitely wasn't an obvious choice for Dead Heart Bloom, especially considering that prior to recording this we'd never really discussed Prince. Of all the time spent talking music in bars, vans, and rehearsal spaces, this was one area we'd never touched on. But, a few 6 packs convinced us to tackle this. And we did. Pretty much one take and a quick vocal overdub, this was a different take on the original, a lot of fun to do, and a great piece of pop music. Recorded at our studio on a late Saturday night/early Sunday morning, summer 2010.
